1. Strength and life

The key to the strength of the rubber melt gear pump (specialized rubber melt pump) is the strength of its gear shaft. Due to the high viscosity and high pressure of the rubber melt, the two gear bearings are subject to very large bending moments and torques, so the diameter of the gear shaft needs to be increased and high-strength materials are used. Due to the limitation of the center distance of the two gear shafts, it is not allowed to choose a bearing with a larger size, which limits the life of the bearing. Therefore, how to solve the contradiction between the strength of the gear shaft and the life of the bearing becomes the key when designing the gear pump.

2. Sealing and preventing stagnation

There are two types of gear support methods for rubber melt gear pumps: sliding bearing with rubber melt as lubricant and rotary rolling bearing. Due to the high viscosity and poor fluidity of the rubber melt, if hard substances and fibers are mixed in the rubber compound, it may damage the sliding bearing and affect the operation of the gear pump. Therefore, rubber gear pumps mostly use rolling bearings, and the lubricating medium of the rollers is usually grease. How to ensure that the rubber melt and the lubricating grease do not contaminate each other during the extrusion process, need to consider a special sealing structure. In addition, the self-cleaning problem of the gear pump system must also be considered. If there is a dead angle in the gear pump, the rubber material will be retained during the conveying process, which is prone to local scorch and seriously affects the quality of the product.

3. Manufacturing accuracy and cost

Since the rubber gear pump is the key equipment for precision extrusion, in order to increase the volumetric efficiency of the gear pump, it is necessary to reduce the backlash and meshing clearance. The gear pump is not working properly. Therefore, there are high precision requirements for gears and pump bodies, and some key parts require grade 5 precision. The improvement of the precision will inevitably increase the manufacturing cost, so it is necessary to find the best balance between the manufacturing precision and the manufacturing cost in the structural design.

4. Temperature control

Generally, the plastic melt gear pump is heated by an electric heating rod, and the pump body and gear shaft are not cooled. For the rubber gear pump extruder, in order to prevent the rubber from scorching, it is necessary to strictly control the temperature of the rubber melt. Inside the pump body and the gear mandrel, a special temperature control system is set up.
