The characteristics and application of melt pumps in polymerization processing
Melt pumps exhibit unique characteristics and wide applications in polymerization processing.
In terms of characteristics, the melt pump is mainly used for melt conveying, pressurization, and metering, with the characteristics of compact structure, reliable operation, low energy consumption, and high volumetric efficiency. Its material needs to be temperature resistant, wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and have sufficient strength and dimensional stability to work continuously under high temperature of 350 ℃ and high pressure of about 30MPa. In addition, the output of the melt pump is linearly related to the gear speed, so precise control of the melt displacement can be achieved by controlling the speed of the melt pump, making it a very reliable measuring device.
In terms of application, polymer melt pumps have a wide range of applications in the extrusion processing industry, including granulation, extrusion plate, extrusion film, extrusion pipe, blow film, extrusion coating, profile extrusion, and continuous blow molding. This device is suitable for processing almost all thermoplastic resins, thermoplastic elastomers, and other polymers. The advantages of melt pumps in polymerization processing are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Pressure stabilizing and boosting function: When the speed of the extruder or screw is stable, the melt pump can achieve pressure boosting function by accelerating the speed of the pump body; When the pump body speed is stable, if the speed of the extruder or screw is increased, the melt pump has a stabilizing function.
Improving product quality: The melt pump can reduce the dimensional tolerance of extruded products, reduce waste and scrap rates, and enable ordinary extruders to produce high-precision products.
Improving extrusion yield: The melt pump has reduced the pressure requirements on the screw, changing from the original pressure building from the screw to the mold to the melt pump to the mold, allowing the screw to be extruded quickly and efficiently. The back pressure of the extruder can be adjusted to reduce the residence time of the melt in the screw, stabilize the plasticization process, reduce the melting temperature, and improve product yield and quality.
Reducing unit energy consumption: When used in conjunction with an extruder, the melt pump can reduce the energy consumption per kilogram of material processed, generally by about a quarter.
Melt pumps play an important role in polymerization processing, and their unique characteristics and wide applications make them one of the indispensable equipment in modern industrial production.
